This quatrain by Omar Khayyam says:

“Rise, my beloved, come for the sake of my heart,
With your beauty, solve the mystery of my being.
Bring a jug of wine, and let us drink together,
Before the potters make their jars from our dust.”

برخیز بتا بیا ز بهر دل ما
حل کن به جمال خویشتن مشکل ما

یک کوزه شراب تا به هم نوش کنیم
زآن پیش که کوزه‌ها کنند از گل ما

In this beautiful quatrain, Khayyam speaks to both love and mortality, two of his favorite themes.
He calls to his beloved, not just for romance, but for meaning, to “solve the riddle” of life through beauty, presence, and shared joy.

The image of wine returns, symbolizing awareness, connection, and the sweetness of the moment.
But then comes his haunting reminder: one day, our bodies will return to clay, and perhaps the earth itself will shape new vessels, new “jugs”, from what we once were.

Khayyam’s message is simple yet profound:
Don’t wait for tomorrow to live, to love, to feel.
Because one day, all that remains of us will be dust, and by then, the time for joy will be gone.

So drink deeply from the cup of life, while it’s still in your hands.
