Section 12 - On the Turning of Time: Be gentle with people, O fortunate one.
Be lenient with people, O fortunate one
So that God may not be harsh with you tomorrow.
If one falls (is in need), he will not remain a captive
For there is a helper for those who have fallen.
Do not give the order to harm a passerby
For it is possible that he may one day rise to command.
When you have power and status that endure
Do not exert force over the weakness of the common poor.
For it may happen that he may also attain status and power
Like a pawn that suddenly becomes a queen (in chess).
Listen to the advice of far-sighted people
They do not sow the seeds of hatred in any heart.
The owner of the harvest suffers a loss
Who makes it difficult for the gleaner.
Should he not fear that they give blessings to the poor
And from that, they place a burden of sorrow upon this (the rich man's) heart?
Many powerful men have fallen hard
And fortune has aided many who have fallen.
One should not break the heart of those below them (in status)
Lest one day you yourself become subordinate.
