Have you heard of the Persian kings

Who oppressed their subjects?

Neither their grandeur nor their reign remained

Nor did their oppression over the peasants

See the error that befell the oppressor

The world remained and his injustices left with him

Blessed is the just one's body on the Day of Judgment

For he has a place in the shade of the throne

To a people whom God favors with goodness

He grants a just and wise king

When He wills that a world should be destroyed

He places the kingdom in the grasp of a tyrant

The righteous men take caution from him

For the oppressor is God's wrath

Know greatness from Him and be grateful

For the ungrateful's blessings will be removed

If you were thankful for this kingdom and wealth

You would attain undying wealth and dominion

But if you oppress in your reign

You will end up begging after being a king

A peaceful sleep is forbidden to the king

While the weak bear burdens for the strong

Do not harm the common people in the slightest

For the king is the shepherd and the common people the flock

When they see rage and injustice from him

He is not a shepherd but a wolf, and cries come from him

He met a bad end and had bad thoughts

Who practiced cruelty upon his subjects

This will pass with hardship and frailty

But his bad name will remain for years

If you do not want curses from the lowly

Be good so no one speaks ill of you
