Section 16 - On Winning Hearts with Kindness: On the road, a young man approached me.
On the road, a young man came before me
Running swiftly ahead of a sheep.
I said to him, 'This is a rope and a bond'
That brings the sheep after you.
He quickly released the collar and chain from it
It began to run to the left and right.
It was still running ahead swiftly
Because it had eaten barley from the man's hand and become accustomed (to him).
When it returned from its frolicking and joy to its place
It saw me and said, 'O master of wisdom!'
'It is not this rope that leads me with him'
'But kindness is a noose around its neck.'
Because of the kindness that the rushing elephant has seen
It does not attack the elephant driver.
Show kindness to the wicked, O virtuous man
For the dog will guard when it eats your bread.
The leopard's tooth is blunt against that man
Who licks his cheese for two days (who provides for it constantly).
