Section 18 - A Story: I heard of a man of pure origin.
I heard that there was a man of pure land (origin)
Knowledgeable and a traveler in the farthest reaches of Rome.
I and several desert-traveling tourists
Went as messengers to visit the man.
He kissed each of our heads, eyes, and hands
And seated us with respect and honor.
I saw his gold, fields, students, and belongings
But without generosity, like a fruitless tree.
The man was warm in kindness and speech
But his kitchen (place of providing food) was strangely cold.
All night he had no rest or sleep
From prayer and praising God, and us from hunger.
At dawn, he prepared himself and opened the door
And began the same kindness and questioning.
There was one who was sweet and good-natured
Who was traveling with us in that region.
He said to me, 'Give a kiss as a correction (exchange)'
For a dervish's provision is better from a kiss (than empty words).
Do not place your hand on my shoes in service
Give me bread and strike the shoes on my head (meaning provide for my needs).
Men have surpassed through selflessness
Not night vigil keepers with dead hearts.
This is what I saw from the Tatar guards
Dead-hearted and night vigil keepers.
Generosity is chivalry and giving bread (providing for needs)
Useless words are an empty drum.
You will see someone in paradise on the Day of Judgment
Who sought meaning and not just the claim of paradise.
A claim can be justified with meaning (action)
Breath without action is a weak support.
