I heard that the Tayy tribe in the time of the Prophet

Did not accept the charter of faith (Islam).

Bashir Nadir (a commander) sent an army

And they captured a group of them as prisoners.

He ordered them to be killed with the sword of vengeance

Because they were impure and of impure religion.

A woman said, 'I am the daughter of Hatem'

Request (mercy) from this renowned ruler (the Prophet).

Show generosity in my stead, O respected one

For my master (father) was a man of generosity.

By the command of the wise Prophet

They released her chains from her hands and feet.

They kept the sword among that tribe (as a threat)

To unleash a merciless flood of blood.

The woman pleaded to the swordsman

Kill me also with the others.

I do not consider it chivalrous to be released from captivity

While my companions are in captivity.

She kept saying this and weeping for the state of the Tayy tribe

Her voice reached the Prophet's ears.

He forgave that tribe and bestowed other favors

For their origin and essence never erred (in generosity).
