Section 21 - The Story of Luqman the Wise: I heard that Luqman was dark-skinned.

I heard that Luqman was dark-skinned

Not indulged in luxury nor of delicate form

One thought him to be a servant of his own

He saw him as humble, engaged in work with flowers

He endured cruelty and endured his injustice and wrath

And after a year, he built a house from his reward

When the servant returned to him

Luqman gave him a high rebuke

He fell at his feet and apologized

Luqman laughed and said, what is the use of this apology?

In a year, I will make my liver bleed with his cruelty

How can I expel from my heart in one hour?

But I will forgive, O noble man

For your benefit has not harmed us

You have prospered your own night shelter

For me, wisdom and knowledge grew more

I have a servant in my thoughts, O fortunate one

To whom I command during times of hardship

I will not torment him again, my heart

When I remember the hardship of the work with flowers

Anyone who cannot endure the cruelty of the great

His heart will not burn for the weak and small

If harsh words come from the rulers

Do not be harsh to those beneath you

Well said Bahram Shah to his minister

Do not be harsh with your subordinates
