Section 24 - The Story of Men's Patience with Hardship: I heard in the land of Vakhsh from the nobles.

I heard that in the land of Wakhs, among the guests

There was one hidden in the corner of seclusion

He was unmarried in meaning, not a mystic by robes

Who did not extend his hand of need to the people

Fortune opened a door towards him

While it was closed to others on his side

The foolish speaker tried

With humor to speak ill of the good man

Beware of this trickery, deceit, and guile

Sitting in place of Solomon, like a devil

They continually wash their faces like cats

Hoping to catch the rats of the alley

The ascetic striving for fame and pride

The empty drum echoes far

He spoke, and people gathered around him

Both men and women wandering about

I heard that the wise man of Wakhs wept

Saying, 'O Lord, forgive this servant's repentance'

And if he spoke the truth, O pure Lord

Grant me repentance, that I do not become ruined

I liked my own fault-finding

It revealed to me my bad nature

If what your enemy says is true, do not be upset

And if it is not, tell him to go with the wind

If a fool says the musk is foul

You remain whole, while he speaks scattered words

And if he follows this word with absurdity

Say, 'Do not make your mind foul like that'

The wise, clear-minded person does not take it

The enemy's language during turmoil

It is neither the way of reason, judgment, nor wisdom

That a wise man would fall for deception

After his work, the one who is wise sits down

And closes his mind to the evil speech

You be of good manner, so that the evil mouth cannot speak of you

And no opportunity arises for them to speak ill of you

When the enemy speaks against you harshly

Look to see what fault they find, do not make it yours

I know none but the good speaker, my friend

Who reveals to me my true self
