Section 25 - The Story of Imam Ali (PBUH) and His Pure Conduct: Someone brought a problem to Ali.

Someone brought a problem before Ali

Unless his problem was solved by the wise judgment

The commander of the disciplined, the conqueror of lands

He responded from the depths of knowledge and wisdom

I heard that a person in that assembly

Said, 'This is not so, or rather with goodness'

The seeker of fame, Haidar, was not offended by him

He said, 'If you know better, go ahead and speak'

He said what he knew, and spoke what was fitting

A fountain of light cannot be hidden in mud

The king of men liked his response

He said, 'I was wrong, and he was right'

There is no better speaker among us than the wise one

For no knowledge is higher than his knowledge

If today you were the lord of fame

You would not have looked at him with pride

You would have been thrown out of his court by his doorkeeper

And would have been struck unjustly

From now on, do not act in a disgraceful manner

It is not polite to speak to the great with disrespect

One who has pride in his head

Do not think that he will ever hear the truth

From his knowledge, he will find no joy in the shame of preaching

A poppy will not grow from a stone with rain

If you possess pearls from the sea of virtue, rise

And scatter them at the feet of the humble

Do you not see that from the fallen dirt

A flower grows and a new spring blooms

Do not throw pearls from your sleeves, O wise one

When you see yourself full of wealth and pride

No one will be seen in the eyes of others

Who shows much pride in themselves

Do not speak so that they may say 'thank you a thousand times'

For if you speak it yourself, do not expect it from anyone
