Section 28 - A Story: A young man showed generosity with a penny.

A young man had shown generosity with a dang (a small coin),

He had fulfilled the wish of an old man.

Suddenly, fate seized him for a crime,

The Sultan sent him to be executed.

The bustle of the Turks and the uproar of the public,

Onlookers on doors, streets, and rooftops.

When a wise old dervish saw in the chaos,

The young man captive in the hands of the people,

His heart ached for the poor generous youth,

Who had once won his heart.

He raised a cry that the Sultan had died,

The world remained, and he took his good character with him.

He rubbed his hands together in regret,

The Turks with drawn swords heard.

A cry rose from them in alarm,

Slapping their heads, faces, and shoulders.

Running on foot, bareheaded, to the court,

They ran and saw the Shah on his throne.

The young man was gone, and they took the old man,

Captive before the Sultan on his throne.

He questioned him sternly and showed his majesty,

What was your reason for claiming my death?

Since my character and honesty are good,

Why did you wish me ill?

The brave old man spoke up,

O you who are attentive to the wisdom of the world,

With a false statement that the Sultan had died,

You did not die, and a helpless person was saved.

The king was so pleased with this story,

That he forgave him and said nothing more.

And from this side, a young man, falling and rising (stumbling),

The poor fellow was running in every direction.

Someone said to him from all sides of retribution,

What did you do that brought salvation to your life?

He whispered in his ear, “O wise one,

I escaped from imprisonment with my life and a dang (a small coin).”

One sows a seed in the ground for this reason,

So that it may yield (fruit) on a day of helplessness.

Generosity prevents a severe calamity,

You have heard of the staff that killed Ouj (a giant).

The true saying is ultimately from Mustafa (Prophet Muhammad),

That forgiveness and goodness repel calamity.

You will not see an enemy's foothold in this place,

For Bubakr Sa'd is the protector of God's land.

Accept, O world, happy with your countenance,

A world, may happiness be upon your face.

No one will take a burden away from your presence,

A flower in the garden will not bear the oppression of a thorn.

You are the shadow of God's grace on earth,

Like the Prophet, a mercy to the worlds.

If no one knows your worth, what does it matter?

For they also do not know the Night of Power (Laylat al-Qadr).
