They tell a story of an oppressor

Who held command over a country.

In his time, the people's day was like night

At night, sleep was forbidden to people because of fear of him.

All day the virtuous were in affliction because of him

At night, the hands of the pure were raised in prayer against him.

A group went to the sheikh of that time

And wept bitterly because of the oppressor.

Saying, 'O wise and auspicious-minded elder'

'Tell this young man to fear God.'

He said, 'I regret the title of friend'

For not everyone is worthy of his message.'

Someone whom you see far from the truth

Do not place truth between you and him, O master.

It is a pity to speak of knowledge with a base person

For the seed is wasted in barren land.

When it does not affect him, he will consider you an enemy

He will resent you deeply and cause you resentment.

Your habit, O king, is to turn towards truth

The heart of a truth-telling man is strong because of this.

A signet ring has a quality, O fortunate one

That it imprints on wax, not on hard stone.

It is not surprising if the oppressor resents me deeply

For he is a thief and I am a watchman.

You too are a watchman with justice and fairness

May God's protection be your watchman.

You have no obligation based on comparison

To God belongs my gratitude and praise.

That He kept you in service in good deeds

And did not leave you idle like others.

Everyone runs in the field of effort

But not everyone wins the ball of generosity.

You did not achieve paradise through effort

God has placed a heavenly nature within you.

May your heart be enlightened and your time prosperous

May your step be firm and your foundation elevated.

May your life be pleasant and your departure righteous

May your worship be accepted and your prayers answered.
