Hekayat 36: Two brothers, one served the sultan.

Two brothers, one served the Sultan and the other earned his living by the strength of his arm.

Once, this wealthy one said to the poor one: Why do you not serve so that you may be freed from the hardship of working?

He said: Why do you not work so that you may be freed from the humiliation of service? For the wise have said: Eating one's own bread and sitting is better than binding a golden sword belt in service.

Kneading dough with lime-burned hands

Is better than standing with hands folded before a prince.

My precious life was spent on this

On what to eat in summer and what to wear in winter.

O greedy belly, be content with a loaf of bread

So that you do not have to bow your back in service.
