Hekayat No. 6: Two Khorasani dervishes, keeping each other's company

Two Khorasani dervishes traveled together, keeping each other's company. One was weak and would break his fast every two nights, while the other was strong and ate three times a day.

By chance, they were arrested at the gate of a city on suspicion of espionage. They were both confined to a house, and the door was sealed with mud.

After two weeks, it became clear that they were innocent. They opened the door. They found the strong one dead and the weak one alive and well.

The people were amazed by this.

A sage said: 'The opposite would have been strange. The one who ate a lot could not endure deprivation and perished in hardship. And the other, who was abstemious, therefore patiently endured according to his habit and remained healthy.'

When eating little becomes someone's nature

When hardship befalls him, he takes it easily

And if he is self-indulgent in prosperity

When he sees hardship, he dies from the difficulty
