When Zahhak became the ruler of the world

A thousand years of assembly passed over him

The entire world turned towards him

This long era came to pass

The deeds of the wise became hidden

The desires of the madmen spread

Art was despised, magic became noble

Truth was hidden, harm became evident

The hand of the devils extended towards evil

One could not speak of goodness except in secret

Two pure ones from the house of Jamshid

Were brought out trembling like willows

For both were daughters of Jamshid

They were like crowns to the heads of the ladies

One of the veiled ones was Shahrnaz

The other, chaste, was named Arnavaz

They were taken to the court of Zahhak

And entrusted to that dragon-shouldered one

He nurtured them through magic

And taught them deceit and wickedness

He knew nothing but teaching deceit

Except for killing, plundering, and burning
