Section 10: A royal helmet on his head
A royal helmet was on his head,
A blood-stained leopard skin was on his body.
He set his face towards Arzhang the leader,
When the seeker of fame came to the army.
He let out a cry in the midst of the group,
You would say it tore the sea and the mountain.
Arzhang Div came out of the tent,
When that roar reached his ears.
When Rostam saw him, he spurred his horse,
He came towards him like Adur Gushnasp (fire).
He seized his head, ears, and brave mane,
He severed his head from his body like a lion.
The demon's head, torn from his body and full of blood,
He threw it to the side where the assembly was.
When the demons saw his mace,
Their hearts were torn by his claws.
They did not remember land, home, or origin,
Father sought a path over his son.
The strong-bodied one drew his sword of vengeance,
He cleansed that assembly at once.
When the world-illuminating victor returned,
He came quickly to Mount Espruz.
He released Olad from the curve of the lasso,
They sat under a tall tree.
Tahmtan asked Olad for the way,
To the city where King Kavus was.
When he heard from him, he quickly set off,
Running on foot, seeking the way before him.
When the crown-bestower came into the city,
He let out a cry like the thunder of Rakhsh.
He then said to the Iranians, 'O noble ones,'
That the bad times that had befallen us are over.
The roaring of Rakhsh reached my ears,
My soul and heart were refreshed by that roar.
He did not make such a cry in the time of Qobad,
When he fought with the king of the Turks.
He came immediately before him,
The knowledge-spreading, quarrelsome hero.
The strong-bodied one went near Kavus,
All the nobles gathered.
He roared greatly and paid him homage,
He asked him about his long sufferings.
King Kavus took him in his arms,
He asked about Zal and the hardships of the journey.
He said to him, 'Secretly from these sorcerers,'
Rakhsh must be kept moving.
When the White Demon is informed,
That the world has become empty of Arzhang,
That the strong-bodied one has come near Kavus,
All the male demons will gather.
All your efforts will be fruitless,
The world will be filled with an army of demons.
You must now take the path to the Demon's house,
Bring hardship upon your body, sword, and arrows.
Perhaps the pure God will be your helper,
And you will bring the heads of the sorcerers to the dust.
You must pass over seven mountains,
Where the demons have formed groups in every place.
A terrifying cave will appear before you,
As I have heard, full of fear and dread.
Your passage is over those warring male demons,
All prepared for battle like leopards.
Inside the cave is the dwelling of the White Demon,
Where they gather an army in fear and hope.
Perhaps you can destroy him,
For he is the leader and support of the army.
The army's eyes were darkened with grief,
My eyes are fixed in darkness.
The physicians placed their hope in his treatment,
With the blood of the heart and brain of the White Demon.
Thus said a wise physician,
That when his blood, like tears,
Is dripped three drops into the eyes,
The darkness will be cleared with the blood coming out.
The strong-bodied one prepared for battle,
And began to depart from that place.
He said to the vigilant Iranians,
That I have set out for the White Demon.
He is a war elephant and a schemer,
He has many soldiers around him.
If he turns my back (defeats me),
You will remain humiliated and sad for a long time.
And if the Lord of the Sun is my helper,
He will give me good and strong fortune.
You will regain the same land and throne,
That royal tree will bear fruit.
