Section 11: He called forth the investigative scribe

(He) summoned the scholarly scribe before him

And scattered the abundant words

First, he remembered the Creator

And freed his soul from the debt of wisdom

After that, he began to praise wisdom

And offered prayers to the king of the Turks

(Saying), "O victorious king, and in (your) time"

"May time not (just) be a memorial of you"

"You summoned me, I became happy because of that"

"May your session be with the Mobads (Zoroastrian priests)"

"And you summoned Farangis as well"

"(You) adorned (her) heart with love and loyalty"

Farangis was lamenting at this time

With lips unmoving and body unmoving

She slept and bound me at her bedside

I see (her) seated between two worlds

My heart is full of your counsel and sight

Both countries are full of suffering and torment from you

When she becomes lighter from lamenting

(She) will be sacrificed for the body of the king of the country

My excuse is also her torment

My inner self is full of pain and anxiety for her

When the letter, sealed, came to hand

(It was delivered) quickly to Garsivaz, of noble lineage

The brave one requested three swift horses

And rode continuously, day and night, directly

The fourth one came to the king's court

Full of malice in his soul and a sinful tongue

Afrasiab questioned him extensively

When he saw him full of suffering and his head full of haste

The king said, "Why have you come in such haste?"

"How did you traverse such a swift path?"

He said to him, "Since the face of affairs has become dark"

"It is not fitting to count on bad times"

He did not come to meet me himself on the way

He also did not listen to speech and did not read the letter

He made me kneel before his throne

Letters were continuously sent to him from Iran

His affection was also bound to his mother

"What has happened to you that you have become different in color?"

He answered thus, "O beautiful-faced one"

"My honor has gone in the land of Turan"

Two tulips were split in two from the clear water (tears)

And let out a roar like a drunken elephant

It is not fitting to take this (matter) into (your own) hands

The hearts of the evil-natured must be broken

You have destroyed an army in this way

See how the king's opinion will be

If you yourself had not harmed (him) from the beginning

This sin could have been washed away with water (i.e., easily rectified)

Now it is better that in the world

(He) should not be visible, neither openly nor hidden

The king brought such an answer to them

"From him, I have not seen any sin with my eyes"

But from the words of the astrologer

In the end, hardship will come upon (me) because of him

If now I shed his blood for vengeance

A dust storm will rise from the land of Iran

Releasing him is worse than killing him

And killing him is (also) my suffering and pain

Harm has come to me in Turan

Grief and pain and imprisonment have come to me

Even if the wise are suspicious of people

No one knows the remedy for (the decrees of) heaven

Farangis heard (this) and scratched her face

And tied her waist with a bloody girdle

(She) came on foot to the king

Her moon-like face stained with blood

She went before her father, full of pain and fear

Weeping, she poured dust upon her head

She said to him, "O king full of skill"

"Why do you want to make me destitute?"

"Why have you bound your heart in deception?"

"From (your) height, you do not see the descent"

"Do not cut off the head of the crowned ones without guilt"

"For the Judge of the Sun and Moon does not approve of this"

"Siavash, who left the land of Iran"

"Was constantly praying for you from the world"

"(He) displeased the king for your sake"

"Such a crown and throne and such a time (of glory)"

"(He) came and became your support and refuge"

"Now what did you see from him that made you stray from the path?"

"No one cuts off the head of crowned ones"

"For (he) remains with the crown on the throne for a long time"

"Do not unjustly oppress my body"

"For the world is fleeting, with wind and breath"

"(Fate) throws one into a well without guilt"

"And seats another with a crown on the throne"

"The end of both is in the dust"

"They are in the grasp of the grave from the stars (fate)"

"Have you heard what the hero Afridun"

"Did to the tyrannical Zahhak the Arab?"

"Likewise, from the great king Manuchehr"

"What befell Salm and the mighty Tur?"

Now living on the throne is King Kavus

Like Dastan and like the vengeance-seeking Rostam

The world trembles from Tahmtan (Rostam)

For Turan is not worth (fighting) him in war

Like Bahram and like Zangeh of Shavaran

Who do not fear the mace of the heroes

Likewise Giv, from fear of whom on the day of battle

The leopard covers itself with fox skin (i.e., hides)

(You) are planting a tree on the ground

Whose leaves will bring forth blood, (and) its fruit, vengeance

The water will be covered in black for the vengeance of Siavash

And will bitterly curse Afrasiab

O oppressor against your own body

You will remember my words much

(This is) not in hunting, that you throw down a wild ass

And throw other gazelles into turmoil

(You) are stealing kingship from the throne

In this matter, look well ahead of time

Do not give the city of Turan to the wind in vain

(For) you must remember the evil day (that will come)

She said this and looked at Siavash's face

And tore at her two cheeks and raised a cry

The heart of the king of Turan was burned for her

And he blindly sewed up the eye of wisdom

He said to her, "Turn back and do not linger here"

"What do you know what my opinion is about this evil?"

In his tall palace, there was a house

Farangis was a stranger to that house

They threw her into that house

And secured the door of the house

Then (he) ordered (them to bring) Siavash

That king, innocent and silent

(Saying) "Take this one to a place where no one"

"Will be his friend or helper"

(They) cut off his head completely from his body

His body will be the shroud for the vultures

(It) must be that the blood of Siavash on the ground

Does not smell (and) no grass grows on the day of vengeance

(They) dragged him, pulling (him) on foot

Like gatekeepers who drag people (to their death)

Siavash lamented to the Creator

"O (You) who are higher than the turning of time"

"Bring forth a branch from my seed"

"Shining like the sun upon the assembly"

Who will seek vengeance from these enemies (of mine)

And renew his own customs in the country"

Pilsam was going behind him

His two eyes full of blood and his heart full of sorrow

Siavash said to him, "Farewell"

"The earth is dark, and may you be an eternal warp (thread)"

"Convey a greeting from me to Piran"

"Tell him that the world has changed its form"

"I did not have such hope from Piran"

"His advice was bad wind for me, like a willow"

"He had told me that with a hundred thousand"

"Armor-clad and mail-clad riders"

"When your day turns (against you), I am your friend"

"In time of pasture, I am your meadow"

"Now running before Garsivaz"

"On foot, so humiliated and with darkened soul"

"I do not see anyone as a friend with myself"

"Who would weep bitterly for me much"

"When (he) passed from the city and the army"

They dragged him and took (him) towards the plain

From Garsivaz, that water-colored dagger

A warrior took (it) for the sake of (shedding) blood

(He) threw the mighty elephant to the ground

Neither shame came to him from that commander, nor fear

(He) placed a golden basin before him

And separated his silver cypress head from his body

In the place where the basin of blood had been ordered

A warrior took (the head) and turned it upside down

A wind with a dark black dust (cloud)

Arose and covered the sun and moon

(People) could not see each other's faces

Everyone began to curse the warrior (who killed Siavash)
