Section 15: This news reached Mehrab and Dastan
This word reached Mehrab and Dastan
That the king and commander had fallen from their rank
The roaring Zal was leaving Kabul
His tail lowered and his mane raised high
He said, 'If a grim dragon appears'
It will burn the world with its breath
If Kabulistan desires to be saved
My first head should be sacrificed
He went before his father, filled with blood and sorrow
His heart full of thought, his mind full of words
When the brave Sam learned of the news
That the cub of the male lion had come from the road
All the troops rose from their places
They prepared Fereydun's banner
They started to celebrate the arrival
The army and the commander received him
All the elephants' backs were adorned with the colorful banner
Decorated in red, yellow, and purple
When Dastan saw his father's face
He dismounted his horse and stepped forward
The nobles dismounted from both sides
Whether they were seeking leadership or following it
The brave Zal kissed the ground
He spoke with his father, too, after a long time
He sat on the Arabian horse of Samand
Shining like a golden, towering mountain
All the nobles came before him
They came with care and conversation
For your father has become upset
Bring him an apology, don’t remove his head
He replied, 'There is no fear from this'
In the end, there is nothing but dust
If my father brings wisdom into his mind
Truly, words will not pass over words
If he opens his mouth in anger
I will bring tears to my eyes out of shame
Thus they came to the court of Sam
With open hearts and joy they came
Sam the rider dismounted from his horse
And immediately granted Zal an audience
When Zal came before his father
He kissed the ground and spread out his arms
He praised Sam the mighty
And wiped the tears from his eyes like flowers
May the vigilant-hearted hero be happy
May his soul be inclined to justice
From your sword, the diamond becomes roasted
On the day of battle, the earth weeps from you
Wherever your sword blade moves on the day of battle
Haste will come to the army's delay
The sky where your mace sees the wind
Surely no star dares to shine
The lion does not submit to the earth with your justice
Your spirit and wisdom are the foundation of justice
All people rejoice in your justice
From you, the earth and time receive justice
Except for me who is deprived of justice
And although I am renowned for my connection to you
I was raised by a bird, eating dirt
In the world, I have no conflict with anyone
I do not know my own sin
That someone has a way against me
Unless it is that Sam the hero is my father
And if there is virtue in this lineage of mine
I was born from my mother and abandoned
You placed my abode in the mountains
You put the nurturing one in distress
You consigned the growing one to the fire
You have no quarrel with the creator of the world
Why the world is painted in black and white
Now, little of the creator's work remains
Look upon me with the eyes of God
With wealth, a throne, and a heavy mace
With wisdom, a crown, a throne, and leaders
I sat in Kabul at your command
I upheld your counsel and promise
If you seek vengeance, I will not harm you
Like a tree you plant, I will bear fruit for you
This gift was made from Mazandaran
You rode from the land of the wolf-hunters
That you may destroy my flourishing home
This was the wish you granted me
Now I stand before you
I have given my body to your wrath
Cut me in two with a saw
Do not speak to me from Kabul
When the commander heard Zal's words
He raised his ears and lowered his mane
He said, 'Yes, this is the truth'
Your words are true, they are witnesses to righteousness
All my dealings with you were unjust
The hearts of my enemies rejoiced over you
You wanted this from me, this very wish
You rose from your place, your heart full of anguish
Do not hurry, for I will solve your troubles
I will now create a marketplace for you
I will now write a letter to the king
I will send it by your hand, O well-wisher
I will remember all that I must speak
I will bring his soul and heart toward justice
If our world-ruler is our friend
All our affairs will be as you desire
They seated the writer before them
They spoke from every door, words running free
The Lord wrote the opening chapter of creation
Where it is and ever shall remain in place
From Him is good and evil, being and non-being
All are His servants, and God is one
Everything made within His breath
Is the way that drives the turning wheel of life
The Lord of Saturn, the Sun, and the Moon
From Him creation arises, including King Manouchehr
In war, within it burns the poison of opium
In celebration, within it shines the moon of the world
The wielder of the mace, the opener of the city
Bringing joy to all who receive a share
The bearer of Fereydun's banner in battle
The proud warrior, slayer of the battle lion
From your wind, the high mountain
The dust of the hoof of the proud steed scatters
Just as from a pure heart and righteous belief
You bring both the wolf and the lamb to the water
I am a servant, having arrived at my place
With strength, I have placed my feet upon it
The camphor circle gathers around my head
So did the Sun and Moon crown my head
I bound the middle like a servant
And made the battlefield eternal
The reins twisted, the steed and mace in hand
None like me has been seen riding the world
The flowing waters of Mazandaran passed
As I took hold of the heavy mace
If I were not a sign upon this earth
I would rise, lifting my neck among the necks of the slain
Like a serpent that emerged from the river of discovery
It rose and made the world like froth
The width of the earth, from city to city, was his
From mountain to mountain, his height stretched
The world was filled with fear of him
Both day and night stood watch against him
I saw the air pure of birds
The very face of the earth, free from beasts
The fiery breath burned the vulture's feathers
The earth burned beneath his venom
A dark whale you raised from the water
And with its tail you drew the eagle from the sky
The earth became barren, without men and beasts
All surrendered their place to him
When I saw that no one in the world remained
Who could find a way to ally with him
By the power of the Lord of the world, the pure God
I cast away all fear and worry from my heart
I bound the middle with a mighty name
And sat upon that steed, with the body of a lion
In the saddle, a mace like that of a bull
A bow in my arm and a shield on my neck
I rose like the dark whale
With sharp claws, and its tail sharp as well
Every one who heard me bid farewell
That I will strike the serpent with my mace
From its head to its tail, like a tall mountain
I drew its hair to the earth like a lasso
Its tongue was like a black tree
Its fur spread in the road like a banner
Its two eyes were like reservoirs full of blood
It roared upon seeing me and came in fury
I had a thought, O king
That perhaps I have fire beside me
The world appeared before my eyes like a sea
With dark smoke rising like black clouds
The surface of the earth trembled from its roar
From its poison, the earth became like the China Sea
I roared at it like a lion
As is the way of a brave man
I shot a diamond-tipped arrow swiftly
And drove it through without delay
As one side of its mouth was sewn shut
Its tongue remained out in astonishment
At that moment, another shot the same
I struck its mouth, and it twisted from the impact
I struck its abdomen a third time
A stream of blood flowed from its liver
When it confined me to the narrow ground
I brandished this bull-headed mace of vengeance
With the power of the world-ruling God
I aroused the elephant-bodied one from its place
I struck its head with the bull-faced mace
It felt as if the sky rained mountains upon it
I shattered its head like an old elephant's body
Poison flowed from it like the Nile River
With such a blow, it never rose again
The earth aligned with the mountains from its brain
The river of blood and bile overflowed
The earth became a place of rest and sleep
All the mountains were filled with men and women
Praising me endlessly
The whole world witnessed that battle
For that dragon was a vile creature
Sam praised me for that single blow
And the world showered me with gold and gems
When I returned from him, my body bright
I was stripped of my renowned armor
It fell from the summit of the royal tower
Though I harm by this act, it's still worthwhile
For many years, on that land, nothing remained
Only the burned thorn of the east persisted
Thus, whatever we had, we decided by choice
I brought the heads of the leaders beneath my feet
Where I once stumbled, like the foot of the wind
The lion, fierce and mighty, would settle there
Now it has been many years since the saddle's back
I have a throne, and my steed is the earth beneath
All the wolves and Mazandaran's lands
I directed them to you, with a heavy mace
I did not recall that land for some time
I desired that you be noble, victorious, and joyful
Now, this raised mane of mine
Is the same striking blow of my helmet
Know this, that it shall not remain
Neither my land nor my kingdom shall persist
He threw a lasso from his hand
Fate bound me in a twisted knot
Now, we have entrusted the turn to Zal
Hoping he will take the belt and helmet
One has a hidden desire
To come and ask of the king of the world
Another desires that which is good in the eyes of God
Where goodness lies under His command
We did not act without the counsel of the great king
For a servant should never be mighty
Indeed, my pact with Zal was
Heard by my world-ruling king
That I would not turn from his opinion, in no way
In these days, he worked hard for my benefit
Before me came one, full of bloodstained wounds
He came, torn apart, with his bones exposed
He told me to aim for Amol
More fitting than setting my sights on Kabul
When one is raised by a bird in the mountains
She becomes a notable figure among the group
Seeing the moon in Kabulistan
Like a tall cypress with blossoms on its top
If she becomes mad, it would not be surprising
The king should not bear enmity against her
Now her love's suffering has reached a point
That brings compassion to anyone who sees her
From all the pain she saw on the innocent
The king heard the promise that was made
I sent her with a heart full of sorrow
When she comes near the high throne
Do as befits nobility
You must learn wisdom yourself
When they wrote the letter and the decision was made
Dastan quickly took it and stood up
As the sun turned its head towards the east
He did not sleep or rest until dawn
When night cast off its worn garments
Dawn smiled and opened its lips
He came and mounted his steed
The horn sounded loudly
He set his face towards the king
With the letter from Sam the noble
