Section 16: They went and the face of the sky became dark
They went, and the face of the sky became dark
The heavens were astonished by Sohrab
You would say that the sky was created from his fighting
He would not rest from charging for a moment
And if his horse is covered in iron underneath
He is miraculously swift and has an iron body
The dark night came towards his army
His waist worn out from fighting and from his dagger
He said to Homan, that today the sun
Rose and filled the world with strife and turmoil
What did that brave rider do to you?
Who had the mane of heroes and the manner of a lion
Homan said to him, that the king's command
Was such that the army should not move from here
All our affairs were very disordered
What was the beginning of the turning away?
A quarrelsome man came
And set his face towards this vast army
You would say that he has now risen from drunkenness
Or he has prepared for battle alone
Sohrab said thus, that from this army
He did not destroy anyone from the brave warriors
I have killed many from the Iranians
I have stained the earth with blood and mud
Now a feast must be prepared
Grief must be reduced from the heart with wine
And from that side, Rostam saw the army
He spoke with Giev and conversed
That today Sohrab, the battle-tester
How did he set foot in battle?
Thus said brave Giev to Rostam
That we have never seen such a warrior
He came rushing to the heart of the army
He sought vengeance on Tus from the army
That he was on the saddle with a spear in his hand
Like Gorgin, he descended and mounted
He came, and when he saw him with a spear
He roared like a fierce lion
He struck him on the chest with a bent mace
With force, his helmet fell from his head
He did not resist him, he turned away
Many warriors became eager to fight
None of the warriors had his strength
Except for Piltan, none had his stature
We maintained the previous custom
We simply appointed an army for him
No rider went against him alone
He was attacking from the center to the right wing
Rostam became grieved by his words
He turned his face towards King Kavus
When King Kavus saw the champion
He chose a place near himself for him
Rostam began to speak about Sohrab
He was mentioning his height and strength
That no child in the world has reached
Such bravery and heroism has not been seen
In height, he almost touches the stars
His body inclines towards the earth
His two arms and thighs are like the thighs of an elephant
Indeed, he has greater thickness
With mace, sword, arrow, and lasso
We tested his strength in every way
Finally, I said that before this
I have unhorsed many warriors
I grabbed the strap of his belt
I squeezed his joints tightly
I wanted to pull him from the saddle
Like other people, throw him to the ground
If even a mountain of thorns is shaken by the wind
That famous warrior would not be shaken on his saddle
When tomorrow he comes to the battlefield
I must resort to wrestling
I will strive, I do not know who will be victorious
Let us see what God's will is
For from Him is victory, glory, and strength
He is the creator of the moon and the sun
Kavus, by the pure God, said to him
May He tear the heart of your ill-wisher to pieces
Tonight, before the Creator of the world
I will rub my two cheeks on the ground many times
For from Him is victory and power
By His command, the moon shines from the sky
May He refresh your desire this time
May He raise your name to the sun
Rostam said to him, with the king's glory
All the desires of the well-wishers will be fulfilled
He turned his face towards his camp
His soul full of thought and his head seeking vengeance
Zavareh came, with a troubled soul
To see how the champion was today
Rostam first asked him for food
Then he cleansed his heart of worries
Thus he spoke to his brother
That be vigilant and do not act rashly
When I go to the battlefield at dawn
I will go before that Turk who seeks battle
Bring my army and my banner
And also my throne and my golden shoes
Stay in front of the tent
When the shining sun rises from its place
If I am victorious in battle
I will not delay on the battlefield
And if the talk turns out differently
Do not start lamenting and do not be hasty
Let no one remain on this battlefield
Do not seek a way towards battle
Go all of you towards Zabulistan
From here, go to Dastan's presence
Make my mother's heart content
Thus God has decreed my fate
Tell her not to attach her heart to me
For there is no benefit in being sad
No one remains immortal in the world
From fate, I have no excuse left
Many lions, demons, leopards, and whales
Were destroyed by my grasp in times of war
Many fortresses and castles that we brought down
No one brought my hand under his control
He who has the strength to move his feet
And bring his horse into the field, will knock on death's door
Even if years passed more than a thousand
This will be the end of the matter
When she is content, tell Dastan
Not to turn his face away from the king of the world
If he prepares for war, do not be weak
Proceed as he speaks from the heart
We are all destined to die, old and young
No one remains immortal in the world
He said it was midnight
The other half was for rest and sleep
