Section 16: When the sun raised its head from the mountain
When the sun raised its head from the mountain
It spread rubies over the stream
Tahamtan gathered all his wealth
And gave it all away to the brave men
A roar came and the wail of the trumpet
Tahamtan roused the army from its place
They set their heads towards Afrasiab
All faces were filled with tears of vengeance for Siavash
Then news came to the quarrelsome one
That Rostam had turned his face towards Turan
He said to Piran, "The Iranians
Have all girded their loins for evil"
Now the land and its dwellings will all be ruined
And will become the prey of the brave men of Iran"
Someone took news to Rostam
Of this inauspicious and uncultured child
At once they will bring him to the Iranian army
And they will place an unworthy hat on his head
Send a messenger immediately
To the inauspicious son of a suspicious father
That he should bring together both of them with their mother
And bring them to speak more or less
A messenger came and took them away
Those two wretches became like بیهشان (a place of execution)
They came near to Afrasiab
They came full of pain and anxiety and fever
And from that place, the king of the land of Turan
Brought an army to the Sea of China
Tahamtan sat upon his throne
The head of his fortune came down to the dust
He told a story from the beginning
That the rich one is he who does not seek an enemy
When a malevolent person comes before you, it is better to kill him
If he is a fugitive, it is better to turn away from him
He searched for all his treasure in the palace
They told him one by one correctly
Slaves and horses and worshippers
The same wealthy, beautiful-faced servants
In the treasure, dinars and a precious crown
The same jewels and brocade and ivory throne
One by one, from every side, it came into his possession
Many jewels came to him from the hidden treasure
The army, from head to toe, became wealthy from it
They became adorned with bracelets and thrones and crowns
He gave one of those ivory thrones to Tus
The same bracelet and collar and decree of Chach
And he said to him, "Whoever can endure
And even if he brings the name of Afrasiab"
Immediately, remove his head from his body
Make a feast for the vultures from it"
Whoever seeks wisdom and safety
Will not turn towards the religion of Ahriman
You must have a son whom you cherish
Safe from hardship, independent of wealth
Do not show any hardship to the dervish
He was always giving and ready to give
For the world is fleeting and not eternal
There is no glory higher than the glory of Jamshid
The high heaven brought him to his feet
And brought the world as a part to the lord
A crown full of royal jewels
Two pairs of bracelets and collars with earrings
He gave Sepijab and Sogd to Gudarz
And gave many advices and decrees for that land
He praised him greatly and made blessings
That there is no one like you in the land of Iran
Greatness and glory and height and justice
We remember the same feast and battle from you
You have both jewel and wisdom with art
Your soul constantly takes pleasure from you
It is right if you listen to my advice
For you are the teacher of the great ones
From Sepijab to the waters of Gulzariyun
No one will disobey your command
For Fariburz, the golden crown of Kavus
He sent and dinars and throne and belt
He said to him, "You are the leader and the chief"
You are the brother of the pure Siavash"
Gird your loins for the vengeance of your brother
Do not loosen the knot of the lasso from the saddle strap
Bring the army into China and Khotan
Seek vengeance from the enemies everywhere
Do not rest from the vengeance of Afrasiab
Remove food and rest and sleep from your body
This news came to Machin and China
That Rostam has ascended to the throne
Everyone prepared gifts and offerings
From dinars and royal jewels
Tahamtan gave them quarter with his life
He saw their awakened souls
And after that, in hunting with cheetah and hawk
He spent a long time in this way
It happened that one day Zavareh went
To hunt wild asses, he strode swiftly
A Turk to be his guide
He sent forward and came to the place
He saw a thicket in that wide plain
That you would say it is impossible to pass through it
From the abundance of fragrance and color and flowing water
It was constantly renewed by the wind, you would say it was flowing
Then that rude Turk opened his mouth
And reminded Zavareh
That this was the hunting ground of Siavash
His affection for the land of Turan was here
In this place he was happy and joyful
Except here, everywhere else he was sad
When Zavareh heard this speech from him
The old days were renewed for him
When the words of that Turk came to his ear
He fell from his horse and lost consciousness
He had a hawk in his claws
He released it and his eyelashes became a stream of blood
The companions of the army reached him
They found him full of sorrow, his face covered in tears
They cursed that guide
Each of them kicked him
Zavareh swore a mighty oath
Yellow tears poured from his eyes
That from now on, I will seek neither hunting nor sleep
I will not rest from the vengeance of Afrasiab
I will not allow Rostam to be at ease at all
Vengeance must be prepared
At once, when he reached Tahamtan
He cried out when he saw his face
He said to him, "We have come here for vengeance
Even if we have come with lips full of blessings"
Since the bestower of goodness, God, gave strength
And the revolution of the sun gave you fortune from the stars
Why should this country remain prosperous?
And one person remain happy in this land and dwelling?
Do not forget the vengeance of that king
That time will not see another like him
He roused that elephant-bodied one from his place
Tahamtan did the same as he saw fit
He immediately began plundering and killing
He seized all the land and its dwellings
From the land of Turan to Saqlab and Rome
They did not leave a single inhabited border
They beheaded young and old
They made women and small children captive
In this way, for more than a thousand leagues
Destruction arose throughout the land
Whoever was a chief with noble lineage
All went forward and bowed their heads to the dust
Saying, "We are disgusted with Afrasiab
We do not wish to see him even in a dream"
Because of the blood that he shed upon the innocent
No one had a way to turn in that direction
Now, even if we are a scattered assembly
We are all your servants and slaves
When you are victorious, do not shed innocent blood
Do not make the claws of the turning heavens sharp
We do not know where that oppressor is
Whether he is in the clouds or in the mouth of a dragon
When he heard the words of that assembly
The elephant-bodied one, Binadel, was stirred
He drove towards the border of Qachqar
He summoned all the leaders of the army
The wise men gathered before him
The elders and experienced brave men
Saying that Kavus, without hand or glory or foot
Sits upon the throne without a guide
If Afrasiab, without delay from any side
Brings an army to Iran for war
He will gain control over that old Kavus
And the desire and peace of all of us will become low
One by one, we have all prepared the means of vengeance
We have burned all his prosperous cities
How many years have passed to six
That not one happy day passed for us
Now let us go to that old king
When battle comes, we will all be renewed
When you set your heart on the old palace
It will be coy and hide speech from you
Tahamtan agreed to that
Which the auspicious Mobad told this story
Thus said the joyful-hearted guide
Choose goodness from this fleeting abode
Drink and be proud and dress and eat
This is your share from this passage
Do not look towards greed, for it is an enemy
Its heart is carried away by the soul of Ahriman
Look who is your mate in the dust
How much will you weep for this wealth?
When Tahamtan heard, he was ashamed
A warm resolve came to him to depart
He looked at the herds of horses on every side
That were roaming freely on the plain of the Turks
Ten thousand slaves and worshippers
He brought, worthy of a king
The same navel of musk and sable fur
From white pearl and from brown kimkhwab
With color and fragrance and brocade and gold
The backs of male elephants were adorned
From spreads and from more and less
From clothes and treasure and dirhams
From the treasure of weapons and from crown and throne
They dragged to Iran and packed their belongings
From Turan, they dragged towards Zabulistan
They dragged towards the auspicious-handed one
Tus and Gudarz and Giv went towards Pars
An army so famous and new
They set their heads towards the king of the world
All the famous ones, fortunate and hidden
And after that, when Afrasiab heard
That Rostam had crossed over that water
He went from the west towards the Ganges Sea
A heart full of vengeance, a head full of war
He saw all the land turned upside down
The great ones killed and the lesser ones taken away
Neither horse nor treasure nor crown nor throne
Nor green leaves on the trees in the garden
A world set ablaze
All the palaces uprooted and burned
The king's eyes shed tears of blood
He said thus to the chiefs of the army
Whoever forgets this
Will silence his awakened soul
All of you, one by one, fill your hearts with vengeance
Make your shield your bed and your sword your pillow
We will bring war and vengeance to Iran with an army
We will bring them down to the earth with spears
If the wind escapes them in one battle
It is not right to have such a base thought
He prepared to attack on every side
He did not see any time for repayment
He burned prosperous land and trees
That deed became difficult for the Iranians
From the lack of rain, the air became dry for seven years
Fortune changed and the situation turned around
The world became full of need from suffering and hardship
This era lasted a long time
