Section 20: When Afrasiab became aware of the army

When Afrasiab became aware of the army

The sunlight turned dark for him

He beat the drums and flutes and mounted his army

He rode out of the palace like a fire

He made two stages into one and came running

He galloped like an arrow from a bow

He brought the army to that battlefield

Where Kalbad had come with the army

He saw the entire border of the army scattered

He saw people lying everywhere

He asked, 'This hero with the army'

When did he come from Iran to this battlefield?

No one among the warriors had any knowledge of the battle

That such a large army had passed by

Who took the news to that demon-born one?

May no one have Piran's heart and mind

If dust were your nourisher

My two eyes would not have seen these days

Sepehr said to him, 'How could you be so?

If your heart were afraid of the army?'

It was only Giev, son of Godarz

No one saw any other riders with him

The army was weary of the clutches of one man

Giev, Farangis, and the king were going

When the commander heard Sepehr's words

An army appeared from ahead

Commander Piran was in the front

His face and mane were all covered in blood

He thought that he had found Giev

And had rushed ahead in victory

When the king looked closer

The hero of the army was so wounded

He saw him bound to the saddle like a stone

His two hands tied behind his back with saddle straps

He asked and remained astonished by him

He became sad and pondered

Piran said to him, 'That fierce lion'

Is neither a ravenous wolf nor a mighty tiger'

There is no one like him in the ranks of battle

Where Giev was alone, O king

I saw from Giev what no experienced and brave man

Sees from elephants and lions

In the way that the day of battle dawns

His breath burns the whale in the sea

First, he came with his heavy mace

Striking like the hammer of blacksmiths

With horse and mace, foot and stirrup

The rider came down from the heights to the slopes

It is as if rain does not fall from the clouds

More than the swords that rained down on his head

When he slept on the saddle in the garden

You would say that he had become one with the mountain

In the end, the entire army turned back

Except for me, no one sought revenge against him

Fleeing from me, he twisted the lasso

He threw it and I was caught in its snare
