Section 4: A long time passed in this

A long era came to an end

The dragon-like tyrant reached his limit

The blessed Fereydun was born of his mother

The world was set upon a new foundation

He grew tall like a graceful cypress

The royal aura shone from him

The seeker of the world bore Jamshid's splendor

He was like the radiant sun

He was to the world like rain in its necessity

And to the soul like knowledge in its grace

The revolving heavens circled above

Became peaceful with Fereydun in harmony

That same cow, famed for its worthiness

Among the cows, it held the highest rank

It separated from its mother like a male peacock

Each hair adorned with a fresh color

Wise men gathered around it

Astrologers and priests alike

For none had seen such a cow in the world

Nor had the wise elders ever heard of one

The land was filled with rumors of Zahhak

As he searched the world for it

Fereydun, whose father was Abtin

Faced hardships upon the earth

Fleeing and weary of himself

He suddenly fell into the jaws of a lion

From those unclean men who guarded him

A few returned to him for a time

They captured him and carried him bound like a cheetah

And Zahhak brought his day to an end

When Fereydun's wise mother saw this

That such misfortune befell her mate

Her name was Faranak, and she was blessed

Her heart was filled with love for Fereydun

Her heart was heavy with the scars of time

She wandered, searching for that pasture

Where the famed cow of great worth dwelled

With its body adorned as befitting

She approached the guardian of that pasture

Crying out and shedding tears of blood

She said to him, 'This suckling child

I entrust to you for a time'

Accept him from his mother as your own child

And nourish him with the milk of this splendid cow

If you desire my soul, it is yours

I pledge my life to you in this cause

The servant of the forest and the fine cow

Gave this answer to the noble-minded woman

He said, 'I am your servant for your child

I will serve and heed your counsel'

For three years, he fed him milk from that cow

Keeping him safe and alert to the dangers around
