Section 8: It was such that Iblis one early morning

It so happened that one morning, Iblis (Satan)

Held a gathering hidden from the king.

He said to the demons, “Today, the affairs

Are full of hardship and difficulty for the king.

A cunning demon is needed now,

Who knows every kind of plan and gathering.

So that he may lead Kay Kavus astray,

And shorten this suffering for the demons.

He will turn his head away from the pure God,

And scatter dust upon his beautiful glory.

They heard and kept it in their hearts,

No one answered out of fear of Kavus.

A cruel demon stood up,

And said, “This cunning is mine.”

He fashioned a guise for himself,

Eloquent and worthy of the assembly.

It was so that one day the king

Went out from the palace for hunting.

He came to him and kissed the ground,

And gave a bouquet of flowers to Kavus.

He said, “This beautiful glory of yours

Is worthy of the revolving heavens.

The face of the whole world has become as you wish,

Shepherds and the arrogant are like a flock (under your command).

One thing remains in the world,

That your mark will never be hidden.

What secret does the sun hold from you,

How it goes in its rising and setting?

What are the moon, night, and day?

Who is the master of this revolving sky?

The king's heart was led astray by that demon,

His spirit became short of thought (he became thoughtless).

He thought that the revolving heavens

Had shown him their face in the world.

He did not know that this sky has no foundation,

The stars are many, but God is one.

All are helpless under His command,

For they are with burning, war, and evil.

The creator of the world is independent of this,

The sky and the earth are needed for your sake.

The soul of that king became full of thought,

How he could become without wings in the air.

The king asked many of the wise men,

How far it is from this earth to the orbit of the moon.

The astrologer spoke, and the king heard,

He chose a wrong and bad solution.

He then ordered that at bedtime,

They went towards the eagles' nests.

They took many chicks from there,

They placed two in each house.

They nurtured them for years and months,

With fowl and lamb meat for some time.

When each of them became strong like a lion,

In such a way that they brought down wild asses.

He made a throne of aloeswood,

He strengthened the joints with gold.

On its sides, long spears,

He fastened, and in that way, he made preparations.

He hung legs of lamb from the spears,

He fixed his heart entirely on this idea.

After that, four brave eagles,

He brought and firmly fastened to the throne.

King Kavus sat on the throne,

Whose heart the Devil had led astray.

When the swift-flying eagles became hungry,

Each of them rushed towards the meat.

They lifted the throne from the ground,

They raised it from the plain into the clouds.

To the extent that they had strength left,

They aimed and intended towards the meat.

I have heard that Kavus went to the heavens,

He kept going until he would reach the realm (of God).

Another said he went to the sky because,

So that he would wage war with arrows and bows.

There are voices of this in every manner,

None knows this secret except the wise.

They flew a lot and then remained behind (tired),

Such is the one who is seized by greed.

When no strength remained with the flying birds,

He became sad and sat down with a worried demeanor.

They descended headlong from the black cloud,

Dragging the king's throne to the ground from the air.

They came towards the forest of Shirchin,

They came down to the ground in Amol.

The world's wonder did not destroy him,

Destiny had something in store for him.

Siavash asked him to appear,

He needed to roam and graze for a while.

Instead of greatness and sitting on the throne,

Regret and pain were in his hand.

He remained miserable and humiliated within the forest,

He kept praying to the Creator.
