Tahmoorath
He had a wise son, noble and grand
The precious Tahmuras, the demon-binder, took his stand
He came and ascended his father's throne
For kingship, he girded his belt and stood alone
He summoned all the wise men from the army near
With eloquence, he spoke words sincere
He said, 'Today the throne and crown are mine,
This treasure, this army, this glory divine.'
With wisdom, I’ll cleanse the world of all wrong
Then create a sanctuary, enduring and strong
From every place, I'll cut the demon's hand
For I wish to be the world's sovereign grand
Whatever is useful in this world, I'll reveal
And free from bonds, their true worth I'll seal
From the sheep and lamb, their wool and hair he took
And to spinning, they then turned their look
Through effort, they made garments with design
He guided them to weave and spread fabrics fine
From swift beasts, he tamed those of great speed
And fed them grass, straw, and barley seed
He observed the wild beasts with a careful eye
Selected lynxes and cheetahs from the roaming supply
With skill, he brought them from plain and hill
He bound those of the group with his will
Of birds, he chose those swift in their flight
The falcon and hawk, majestic in their might
He brought them and began to teach their ways
The world watched him in astonishment and praise
When this was done, he tamed hens and roosters too
That crowed loudly at the drumbeat's cue
He brought them and made them serve mankind
Selecting only the useful, leaving the rest behind
He commanded them to play melodies with fervor and care
And not to sing unless with voices fair
He said, 'Praise Him with all your might'
And worship the Creator of the world in light'
For He gave us power over the beasts of the field
Praise Him who showed us the righteous path to yield
He had a pure guide by his throne so near
Whose wisdom was free from deeds of fear
Renowned everywhere was his name, Shahrasp
His steps brought good wherever they would grasp
All day, he refrained from food and drink
And stood before the Creator throughout the night, to think
Beloved in every heart, his virtue shone
His way was prayer at night and fasting alone
He was the fortune of the king’s reign
And bound the ill will of those in disdain
He showed the king the ways of virtue and good
And sought to establish truth as it should
So the king was purified from all sin
That the divine glory shone brightly within
He went and bound the devil with a spell
And mounted a swift steed, powerful and well
Time after time, his saddle he would prepare
And galloped around the world without despair
When the demons saw his deeds of might
They turned away, refusing his words of right
The demons gathered in great numbers near
To strip him of his crown and splendor, they did fear
When Tahmuras learned of their plot and strife
He raged and shattered their plans with his life
With the Creator’s glory, he girded his waist
And raised a heavy mace with determined haste
All the mighty demons and sorcerers there
Were overcome, a heavy army laid bare
The roaring black demons led the charge in vain
They raised their cries to the heavens in pain
The world-ruler Tahmuras, wise and divine,
Prepared himself for war and enmity's line.
He engaged in battle with the demons, one by one,
Their resistance did not last long under the sun.
Two-thirds of them he bound with spells so strong,
The rest he subdued with his heavy mace all along.
He dragged them, wounded, bound, and disgraced,
For their lives, they pleaded mercy with haste.
‘Do not slay us, for we shall teach you a craft,
A skill from which great benefit you will draft.’
The noble king granted them mercy, then,
So they might reveal the secrets of their den.
When freed from his chains and tyranny's bind,
They sought his alliance, with no choice in mind.
They taught the king the art of writing fair,
And his heart with knowledge was set to flare.
Not one script, but thirty they brought,
Roman, Arabic, and Persian scripts they taught.
Sogdian, Chinese, and Pahlavi scripts too,
Every language and form of writing they knew.
The ruler lived thirty years beyond this feat,
Adding new skills and wisdom to make life complete.
But time came, and his life met its end,
His struggles remained as his legacy to send.
