Ghazal No. 165: If that wine you drank at dawn was not captivating
If that wine which you drank at dawn was not intoxicating
Take from me a wine which is truly a resurrection
What delight and spectacle that arrives from the first cup
The second, God forbid, what shall I describe the third?
Grief and expediency will not remain, it will drive all down
After that, God knows where the spectacle will lead
You are a prisoner of scent and color, like the image on a stone
You will leap like spring water from within the hard rock
Give that wine of the portico, O generous cupbearer
When I become like that, I will speak your words without fear
Give me a heavy cup, give it to your own servant
Look, from your intoxication, I have become anxious above
I have become anxious towards that side to which you have made me accustomed
That the stream may flow which flowed from the sea
