Ghazal No. 206: Oh you who have all the goodness, who are you and whose opinion are you?

O you whose goodness is all-encompassing, then who do you choose? Who do you choose?

O flower in our garden, then where are you? Where are you?

The lily, with a hundred tongues, did not give me a sign of you

It said, 'Go, do not seek from me anything other than prayer and praise.'

From your hand, O moon, the garden is a mouth full of sugar

And unaware of your hand, (it is) with all its leaves and melodies

Even if the cypress raises its head, when will it reach your stature?

Even if the narcissus had eyes, it would not see you

Even if the bird delivers a sermon, even if the branch scatters flowers

Even if the verdure runs swiftly, it has no remedy

The drink of the flower is from the cloud, the drink of the heart is from patience

The cloud is the rival of the plant, patience is the rival of the morning breeze

On every side, people, demons, and beasts are lined up

But in this tavern, their feet have no footing

Seek me on every side, say whatever you want

You will not find a way, not even a hair's breadth, until I show the way

The surface of the water becomes warm from the beating of the sun

Again, the sun will draw it up to the heights

(The sun) carries it away little by little, so that you do not know what it carries

The captivating ray steals the pure (water) from the pain

From this wondrous speech, I closed both my lips

But the heavens, all night long, are calling you to prayer
