Ghazal No. 228: Bring the one who leads the companion to the companion
Bring that (force) which draws the mate towards its mate
(Which) draws the angel from the heavens towards the earth
Like Muhammad every night towards the ascension (Miraj)
(Which) draws the Buraq of eternal love under the saddle
Sit in the presence of the spirit, for every sitting of yours
(Will) draw you towards the manners, nature, and qualities of your companion
(As for) the wine of eternal love, whose cupbearer is the spirit
It does not seize or draw (one), and if it does draw, it draws in this way
Go and steal the self-sacrificing nature from the moth
For that (nature) will draw you towards the light of the candle of religion
The divine revelation arrived, (saying) 'Sharpen your ears'
For a sharp ear will draw (you) towards the God-seeing eye
The thought of the friend will give you the glad tidings of union
For that thought and conjecture will draw (you) towards certainty
In this well (of the world), you are like Joseph, the thought of the friend is the rope
The rope will draw you to the highest heavens
On the day of union, if your reason remains, it will say
'Did I not tell you to do such that that (action) would draw (you) to this (state)?'
Flee, flee from the world like gazelles from a lion
I have understood it all: a mine is drawn to a mine (i.e., like attracts like)
The soul will reach the threshold of union with honesty
Even if crookedness draws the crooked (thread) to silk and floss
Endure the thorns of afflictions, for the thorn-puller
(Will) draw (you) to verdure and rose and basil and jasmine
Drink the curses and insults of enemies for the sake of the friend
For that (endurance) will draw (you) to kindness and praises and blessings
Close your mouth and be trustworthy in keeping secrets
For the king draws the key of the treasury to the trustworthy one
