Ghazal No. 233: Where is the soul's cupbearer to mix us together
Where is the cupbearer of the soul, so that he may unite us?
(And) sweep away from our hearts the thought of yesterday and tomorrow?
Like a tree that is insufficient as a refuge for birds
Like an amir (who) is needed for the army of love
A hundred thousand fairies will flow from the path of the breast
When (he) reads the spell of revival upon the bottle
Where is the hunting lion and its pleasant attacks
That they may fill the desert with musk gazelles?
(The light of the world) is from the East and from the Sun
The pearl and the offspring and the children of Eve are from Adam
Where is the sea of truths, where is the cloud of generosity
That has given flowing eyes to the rock?
Where is the mine (of the king) that is not ours, but is that (mine)
Whose magic blinds even the seeing eye?
(He) will blind your eye in such a way that you will see the atom
And in the midst of the day, you will not see the great Sun
It is from his eye-binding that you see a small boat
In the midst of the sea, and you do not see the waves of the ocean
