Ghazal No. 261: Hey, oh physician of lovers, have you seen someone as mad as us?

O physician of love-stricken lovers, have you seen any like us?

O my companion, I am consumed, were it not for you both

O Joseph of a hundred assemblies, have you seen a Jacob like me?

My cheek is yellow from seeking, and my eye is white from weeping

From the eye of Jacob, the pure, see a tear running, O Joseph

My tears flow with love from my eyes, the very essence of love

A hundred Egypts and a hundred sugar lands are hidden within Josephs

The prey may be large or small, for all are within the void

The means of joy have been arranged, whatever my heart desired has come to pass

For time is a sharp sword, do not dwell on what has passed

Do not tell the soul, returning in his love, like the grandson of Moses

Go, you and your Lord, and fight; we are sitting here

You will never see in the world anyone more oppressed than these lovers

Say to the people of intellect, be gentle with the people of love

If there was pain and outcry, in the end there was justice

From the grace of the benevolent Lord, justice is established upon the Throne

If you are aware of our drink and of the sweet-faced cupbearer

Adhere to him and know that this is not hoped for from anyone else

We have tried all tricks, O teacher of tricks, forbid us not

What do you see in what you see, O you who see what is not seen?

Be silent and seek the rest from the generous speaker

For understanding from his inspiration is a cure for every affliction
