Ghazal No. 381: Which path is it that I have come
Which is the path I came by?
That I may return, for the work is raw
A moment's distance from the beloved's street
Is forbidden in the religion of lovers
If there is anyone in the whole village
By God, a mere gesture is enough
How can a sparrow escape when the Simorgh
Is bound by this wondrous snare?
O wandering heart, do not come this way
Sit there, where the place is pleasant
Choose that delicacy which increases the soul
And seek that wine which is lasting
The rest is all scent, image, and color
The rest is all war, shame, and name
Be silent and sit down from your feet
Since you are intoxicated and this is the edge of the roof
