Ghazal No. 387: Be the dust of the one whose water of life is clear
Become the dust of him whose water of life is bright
Half a loaf of bread will arrive as long as half a soul is in the body
I said to him, 'After all, what are these many separations for one union?'
He said, 'Yes, I am a butcher, the throats are with the necks'
Yesterday I had gone to see the desert of the heart
That does not fit in the sight, what place is there to find it?
The intoxicated eye of the beloved is saying to my eye at every moment
That which is in my eye does not fit in two worlds
Go, become greater than two worlds, so that I may pour upon your head
That which is the soul of the soul for the heart and the sight for the eyes
Each particle lovingly beside its beloved
Strikes its side, for it is the time of marriage and dowry
In that joining, water and fire have become one
The bud there is hyacinth, and the cypress there is lily
Under their feet are treasures, and above are gardens
Listen from above, it is not the time to speak of below and above
If I do not speak openly, that is evident without description
Its taste is in the head, and its collar is on the neck
Shams Tabrizi, you are a sun, what can I say in your praise?
I have a hundred tongues like swords, but they are mute in your description
