Ghazal No. 53: Your love brought a cup full of calamities
Your love brought a cup full of calamities
I said, "I will not drink wine in your presence, O king!"
The wine of his knowledge gave (me) that sugar land
I became intoxicated, (and he) carried me to where all
From one side, the trustworthy spirit came hidden
I ran forward to see the work and wonders
I said, "O secret of God, hide your face!"
(He) thanked God and spoke praises (and) said prayers
I said, "The hidden lover himself does not become (visible)"
"What is it that becomes a veil before the pure ones?"
When love becomes bloodthirsty, woe from it, woe!
Mount Uhud will be torn apart, especially like us moons
Happy is the moment when that king of mine comes laughing
Opens, out of generosity, the fastenings of (his) robes
Says, "You have become depressed without our gaze"
"Come forward so that the airs may strike you"
Says, "Where is that kindness of yours, O all goodness?"
"Show yourself to your servant, O opener of bonds!"
Says, "No, you will become fresh, do not grieve at all"
"(You will be) fresher than the narcissus and the rose at the time of the morning breeze"
I say, "O you who have given medicine to both worlds"
"I have no medicine for my soul except your lips"
The fruit of every branch and tree is his witness
My face, like gold, and my tears are witnesses
