Ghazal No. 76: Finally that moon heard our dawn sighs
At last, that moon heard our sigh of dawn,
So that another resurrection came tonight, our resurrection.
When that moon revolves in my breast, I say:
O cycle of the moon, behold the cycle of our moon!
Where is Rostam, the son of Dastan, so that we may show him (our) prowess?
Where is Joseph, so that he may see our beauty and glory?
You become a sweet morsel in the service of his (Shams's) sugar,
(But you are too precious to be just) a morsel, for you are our (source of) sugar.
His (Shams's) generosity desires to take us into his embrace,
For this reason, he creates a remedy every moment, even if (it is) grief for us.
Since roasted liver cannot be eaten without salt,
(Love) sprinkles salt every moment on our roasted liver (i.e., gives us trials).
Without feet, we perform circumambulation; without a head, we come to prostration,
Since he (Love) has made our feet and head without (the usual function).
Without feet, we perform circumambulation around the court of that king (Shams),
Who, intoxicated with "Am I not (your Lord)?", came and broke our door (of self-existence).
When our color became golden from his (Shams's) silvery breast,
May a hundred treasures be sacrificed for this silver and gold of ours!
Where can it come in color? Where can it fit in form?
The light that makes the body of us humans angelic?
He (Shams) has no comparison, and out of kindness, he allows (us to see him),
Because he knows the weakness of our sight.
He said, "My light is like a lamp,"
He called our breast and sight the niche and the glass (of the lamp).
Be silent, so that not everyone brings this to (their) ear,
For who is it that can comprehend our good and evil?
