Ghazal No. 85: For God's sake, look at my gold-like face, my dear
For God's sake, look at (my) face like gold, O soul,
Wherever you go, take us with you, O soul.
When you enter our hearts, pull up your skirt (in respect),
So that your garment is not stained by the blood of (our) livers, O soul.
O moon, rise at last to the blindness of the moon-faced ones,
Draw a black cloud over the face of the moon, O soul.
From the day you were born, O sugar-lipped one, from (your) mother,
Alas, how stagnant the market of sugar has become, O soul.
You said "peace be upon you," and it seized the whole world,
The heart has fallen in prostration, the soul has girded its loins, O soul.
Like a candle, I was burning, killed every night until dawn,
Today I do not recognize night from dawn, O soul.
Shams al-Haq Tabrizi, the king of blood-shedding (i.e., of passionate love),
O sea girded (with pearls), before you are (all) pearls, O soul.
