Ghazal 28: By the master's soul, ancient truth, and righteous covenant
By the master's soul and ancient truth and true covenant
That my dawn companion is prayer for your fortune
My tears that surpass Noah's flood
Could not wash the image of your love from my heart's tablet
Make a deal and buy this broken heart
For in its brokenness it's worth a hundred thousand whole ones
The ant's tongue grew long with Asaf and it's right
For the master lost Jam's seal and did not seek it
O heart, don't lose hope in the friend's infinite grace
Since you've claimed love, risk your head quick and nimble
Strive for truth that the sun may rise from your breath
For from falsehood the first dawn became black-faced
I became mad for mountain and plain from your hand, and still
You don't loosen the chain's belt in mercy
Don't grieve Hafez and don't seek loyalty from the beloveds
What fault is it of the garden if this plant didn't grow
