Ghazal No. 216: That friend, whose presence turned our home into a fairy's abode
That beloved, whose house of ours was a fairy's abode
From head to toe, she was free of flaws like a fairy
My heart said it would settle in this city for her scent
Poor heart did not know that its beloved was on a journey
Not only did the secret of my heart become unveiled
As long as the heavens existed, its way was to tear veils
The object of my wise one's attention was that moon
With beauty and manners, she had a discerning way
A malevolent star took her from my grasp
Yes, what can I do, it was the fate of the moon's cycle
Excuse it, O heart, for you are a dervish and she
In the realm of beauty, she held a royal crown
The good times were those spent with the friend
The rest were all unfruitful and unaware
It was pleasant by the water with flowers, greenery, and wild roses
Alas, that flowing treasure was a passerby
Kill yourself, O nightingale, from this jealousy, for the rose
Was displaying beauty with the morning breeze
Every treasure of happiness that God gave to Hafez
Was from the blessing of night prayers and morning recitations
