O dervish, do not journey again from the abode of the beloved

For spiritual travel and the corner of your monastery be enough for you

And if sorrow opens an ambush from the corner of your heart

The sanctuary of the old Magian's threshold be enough for you

Sit at the head of the tavern bench and drink the cup of wine

For this much from the world, the acquisition of wealth and status be enough for you

Do not seek excess, make your task easy for yourself

A ruby-red wine flask and a moon-like idol be enough for you

The heavens may grant the reins of desire to the ignorant

You, who are of virtue and knowledge, this much sin be enough for you

The desire for the familiar abode and the old covenant of the beloved

From the travelers of the path, this apology be enough for you

Do not become accustomed to the favor of others, for in both worlds

The pleasure of God and the bounty of the king be enough for you

O Hafez, you need no other incantation

Your midnight prayer and morning lesson be enough for you
