Ghazal No. 442: By his life, who was always within reach of the soul.
By his life, if I had access to my own life,
That would be the least offering from his servants.
I would have said what the value of the dust of his feet is,
If precious life were eternal.
The cypress would confess to being a slave to his stature,
If it had ten free tongues like the lily.
I don't even see him in my dreams, let alone union,
Since this is not the case and we haven't seen that, at least that would have been.
If my heart was not bound by his tress,
Where would it find rest in this dark world?
In appearance, he is unparalleled in the world like the sun of the sky,
Alas, if only he were a ذره (a tiny bit) kind at heart.
If only he would enter my door like a flash of light,
So that his command would flow upon our two eyes.
When would Hafez's lament have fallen from the veil,
If he were not a companion of the morning singing birds.
