Fortune has done well in aiding on the day of judgment,

So that you may know how to give thanks and what offering to bring.

The one who fell, God took his hand,

Let it be upon you so that you may grieve for the fallen.

In the street of love, they do not buy the glory of kingship,

Confess servitude and express your devotion.

O cupbearer, enter my door with the good news of joy,

So that you may remove the sorrow of the world from my heart for a moment.

In the royal road of status and greatness, there is much danger,

It is better that you pass through this mountain pass lightly burdened.

The sultan and the thought of the army and the desire for the crown and treasure,

The dervish and peace of mind and the corner of a dervish's cell.

May I say a Sufi word?

O light of my eyes, peace is better than war and judgment.

Achieving one's desire is according to one's thought and effort,

From the king, a vow of goodness, and from God, the grace of assistance.

Hafez, do not wash away the dust of poverty and contentment from your face,

For this dust is better than the practice of alchemy.
