Hafez, born Khwaja Shams-ud-Din Muhammad Hafez-e Shirazi, was a renowned Persian lyric poet whose works are considered pinnacles of Persian literature. Born in Shiraz, Iran, around 1325, he earned the title "Hafez" for memorizing the Quran at a young age. This later became his pen name.

Though details of his life are scarce, it's known he was a court poet, enjoying the patronage of Shiraz's rulers. His poetry, primarily composed in the form of ghazals (lyric poems), is a masterful blend of love, wine, and mysticism.
