Description: English Translation:

Literal:

"My tears flowed like a stream, passing over the water.
He thought I was seeking sympathy from him.
How can I tell him my story?
He is a Turk and will strike me with a polo mallet if I speak."

Poetic:

"My tears, like rivers, flowed and passed away,
He thought I sought his comfort, day by day.

How could I tell him of my heart's deep pain?
A Turk he is, and would but add disdain."
