English Translation for Ghazal

For a lifetime, I've been seeking, taking a step each day
Each time, I extend my hand in supplication for a good name

Without my moon-faced beloved, to pass my days
I set a snare on the path, I catch a bird in a trap.

Where is the royal throne? Where is the beautiful face? Where is the image of loyalty and love?
My state in love is a gamble on ruin.

Until I find news of the shadow of the slender cypress
I strike the love song from every side, on a happy tune.

Although I know that that peace of heart will not satisfy my heart’s desire
I draw an imaginary picture, I cast a lasting fortune.

I know that it will bring sorrow to a head, that it will bring the story to a colorful end
This blood-shedding sigh that I utter each morning and evening.

Although I am absent from him, and like Hafez, repentant of wine
In the gatherings of the spiritual, I occasionally take a cup.
