Let us raise our hands in prayer one night
And seek a remedy for the sorrow of your absence from somewhere.
My heart is sick from the hands of my friends, help me
So that I may bring its physician and give it medicine.
The one who became angry without cause and struck me with his sword and left
Bring him back, for God’s sake, so that we may make peace.
The root of joy has dried up; where is the path to the tavern?
So that we may grow and flourish in that air and climate.
Seek help from the minds of the carefree ones, O heart, or else
This is a difficult task, lest we make a mistake.
The shadow of the impatient bird cannot do anything
Let us seek the shadow of the auspicious phoenix.
My heart has broken from the curtain; where is the eloquent Hafez?
So that we may make a new melody with his words and his ghazals.
