Like a servant, I’ve come to seek your protection,
For I have no arms to engage in your rejection.
I resolve to give you my heart no more,
Yet I find myself believing in you once more.
No wealth can match the price of your face,
But in my poverty, I remain your buyer with grace.
I have jealousy but lack the power
To hide you from others in their hour.
Though weak as an ant and without much might,
I bear my breath and carry your weight outright.
You’ve ensnared me in a bond so tight,
That even freedom feels trapped in its plight.
From the first glance, I warned myself:
Beware the drunkard eyes that steal one’s self.
These eyes may never look away from you,
Lest they miss the vision of your view.
You grow weary, while your friends long still,
You flee, yet we seek you with undying will.
Saadi dreams in slumber’s embrace,
That your enchanting eyes have tied his gaze.
With your sleepy and dream-laden sight,
Why fear the wakeful eyes burning bright?
