به کویِ میکده یا رب سحر چه مشغله بود؟

که جوشِ شاهد و ساقی و شمع و مشعله بود

حدیثِ عشق که از حرف و صوت مُستَغنیست

به نالهٔ دف و نی در خروش و ولوله بود

***

مباحثی که در آن مجلسِ جنون می‌رفت

وَرایِ مدرسه و قال و قیلِ مسأله بود

***

دل از کرشمهٔ ساقی به شُکر بود ولی

ز نامساعدیِ بختش اندکی گِلِه بود

***

قیاس کردم و آن چشمِ جادوانهٔ مست

هزار ساحر چون سامریش در گَله بود

***

بگفتمش به لبم بوسه‌ای حوالت کن

به خنده گفت کِی‌ات با من این معامله بود؟

***

ز اخترم نظری سعد در رَه است که دوش

میان ماه و رخِ یارِ من مُقابله بود

***

دهانِ یار که درمانِ دردِ حافظ داشت

فغان که وقتِ مُرُوَّت چه تنگ حوصله بود

Description:

English Translation:

O Lord, what a commotion was there at the tavern’s gate at dawn?
A tumult of the beloved, the cupbearer, the candle, and the torch.

The tale of love, which is independent of words and sound,
Was expressed in the wailing of the tambourine and flute, in a great uproar.

The discussions that went on in that madhouse
Were beyond the school and the quibbling of the question.

My heart was grateful for the cupbearer’s coquetry, but
It had a slight complaint about my ill fortune.

I compared and found that that perpetually intoxicated magical eye
Had a thousand sorcerers like Sameri in its flock.

I said to her, “Grant me a kiss on your lips,”
She laughed and said, “When was there such a deal between you and me?”

A fortunate glance from my horoscope is on the way, for last night
There was a confrontation between the moon and my beloved’s face.

My beloved’s mouth, which was the cure for Hafez’s pain,
Alas, what a narrow patience it had at the time of generosity.
