With blood from my heart, I’ve written a letter to my beloved
Truly, I’ve seen the Day of Judgment from your separation
I have a hundred signs in my eyes from his absence
Are not these evident tears a sign to us?
Though I’ve tried, I’ve gained no benefit from him
Whoever tries something that has been tried before, deserves blame
I asked a physician about my beloved’s condition, and he said
“In distance is torment, in nearness is safety”
I said, “Blame will come if I revolve around my beloved”
By God, we have never seen love without blame
Hafez, like a seeker, has come with a sweet-life cup
So that he may taste a blessed cup from it
