Hekayat 14 from Chapter 3 of Golestan of Saadi

Moses, peace be upon him, saw a dervish who had become naked and was lying on the sand.

The dervish said: “O Moses! Pray to God, exalted be He, to provide me with sustenance, for I am at the end of my endurance.”

Moses prayed and left.

A few days later, when he returned from his supplication, he saw the man in chains, surrounded by a crowd.

Moses asked: “What has happened?”

They said: “He drank wine, caused a disturbance, and killed someone. Now he is sentenced to retribution.”

And the wise have said:

"If a poor cat had wings,

It would have wiped out the sparrows from the world.

The weak, when they gain strength,

Rise and oppress the weak."

“And if God were to extend His provision to His servants, they would transgress on earth.”

Moses, peace be upon him, acknowledged the wisdom of the Creator and repented for his audacity.

"What made you, O deluded one, engage in danger,

Until you perished? I wish the ant had not flown."

"When a servant gains wealth and gold,

He will inevitably face a slap on his head."

"Have you not heard what Plato said?

It is better for the ant not to have wings."

“The father has much honey, but the son has a fever.”

"He who does not make you rich,

Knows what is best for you better than you do."
