Hekayat 25 from Golestan of Saadi

I heard that one of the Arab kings told his attendants, “Double the stipend of so-and-so, for he is always present at the court and ready to obey orders, while the other servants are busy with play and neglect their duties.”

A wise man heard this and cried out in anguish. When asked what he had seen, he replied, “The ranks of servants at the court of God, the Exalted, are just like this.”

If someone comes to serve the king for two mornings, On the third, the king will surely look upon him with kindness.

Greatness lies in accepting commands, Neglecting commands is a sign of deprivation.

Whoever has the appearance of the righteous, Keeps his head in service at the threshold.
