Hekayat 39 from Chapter 2 of Golestan of Saadi

Posted on September 08, 2024 by hamed

A man lay drunk and asleep by the roadside, having lost control of himself.

A devout man passed by and looked at him in his disgraceful state.

The young man awoke from his drunken sleep and said:

"When they pass by idle talk, they pass by with dignity.

When you see a sinner, be a concealer and patient.

O you who criticize my actions, why do you not pass by nobly?"

Do not turn away, O pious one, from the sinner

Look upon him with compassion

If I am ignoble in my actions

You should pass by me as the noble do
