One of the students possessed a great deal of charm, and the teacher, as is the nature of human beings, had a special affection for his beauty. Whenever he had a private moment with the boy, he would say:
"I am so captivated by your heavenly face,
That I forget all about myself.
I cannot tear my gaze away from you,
Even if I see arrows flying toward me."
One day, the boy said, “Just as you observe my dedication to my lessons, please also take notice of my character. If you find any flaw in my behavior that I do not see, kindly inform me so I can work on correcting it.”
The teacher responded, “Oh, my boy, ask this question of someone else, for the way I look at you allows me to see nothing but virtue.”
"The envious eye, which should be plucked out,
Sees only flaws in one's virtues.
But if you have even one virtue amidst seventy flaws,
A friend sees only that one virtue."
