English Translation for Hekayat

Someone asked: What is a scholar without practice like?

He replied: Like a bee without honey.

Tell the coarse, unkind bee,

If you do not give honey, at least do not sting.

متن حکایت

گفت: به زنبور بی عسل.

زنبور درشت بی مروت را گوی

Saadi's wisdom here highlights the importance of the practical application of knowledge. It teaches us that knowledge without action is as useless as a bee that doesn't produce honey. Furthermore, it emphasizes that if one cannot contribute positively, they should at least refrain from causing harm. Saadi's timeless insights continue to offer valuable lessons on the necessity of practicing what one preaches and the importance of minimizing harm.
